Carlos A. Primo Braga, a Brazilian national, is Professor of International Political Economy at IMD, Lausanne and Director of the Evian Group@IMD, an international coalition of corporate, government and opinion leaders, united by a common vision of enhancing global prosperity via an open, inclusive and equitable global market economy in a rules-based multilateral framework.
Before joining IMD, he was the Special Representative and Director for Europe, The World Bank (2011-12). He was also Director, Economic Policy and Debt (2008-10) and, in 2010, he was the Acting VP and Corporate Secretary of the World Bank Group and Acting Executive Secretary of the Development Committee. Other responsibilities at the World Bank included: anchoring strategic relationships with key shareholder groupings (e.g., G7/8, G20, G24, APEC, ASEM) and with institutions such as the IMF, Commonwealth Secretariat and OECD; Senior Adviser of the International Trade Department (2003-06), responsible for dialogue with European-based institutions, including the OECD, the EC, UNCTAD and the WTO; Senior Manager at the Information Solutions Group (2001-03) and Director of the Development Gateway. From 1997 to 2001, he was the Manager of infoDev, The World Bank. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering (1976), ITA (Brazil); an MSc (1980) in Economics, University of São Paulo and a PhD (1984) in Economics, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA.
