Shafeeq Ghabra
Professor of Political Science, Kuwait University, Kuwait

Shafeeq N. Ghabra is Professor of Political Science at Kuwait University and a public intellectual dedicated to democratic change in Arab world. He earned his BA from Georgetown University 1975, and a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin 1987. The first and founding president of the American University of Kuwait 2003-2006, Shafeeq also directed the Center of Strategic Studies at Kuwait University 2002-2003 and was Director of the Kuwait Information office in Washington D.C. from 1998 to 2002. Previously, he was the Editor-in-chief of the Journal of The Social Sciences at Kuwait University 1996-1999.
Shafeeq is the author of seven books and scores of articles and papers among which Kuwait: A study of the dynamics of state and society (2010), Afaq Books and Hayat Ghayr Amina (Unsafe life: The Generation of dreams and disappointments), A personal narrative covering the Arab world between 1960’s 1970’s and 1980’s.
